I must confess that I didn't know that this were officers and that their pikes are to fire their guns. Just to show that I am still painting figures some officers of the Revell 2566 Imerial Atillery 30YW.
Imperial Guard are the closest thing in the 40K universe to standard human soldiers, and so are probably the easiest army to find decent alternative models for - for the infantry, anyway! Mantic Games have their Corporation Army range, which are perfect guard replacements on the whole.
